Capital University’s Changing Landscape

Loy Hall was recently razed to make way for a 34,430 square foot media center.

Loy Hall was named for Mathias Loy, Capital’s president from 1881-1890. The first recorded event at Loy was the 1906 commencement. Through the building’s long history, it hosted performances, athletic competitions, worship services, and training and housing for soldiers of both World Wars.

The first floor could seat 1,000 and it doubled as a full-length basketball court. Later years saw it being used as studios for the arts and housing the university archives.
